ARRIVAL

PRIVACY POLICY

Introduction

At Arrival Project, we recognize that your privacy is important. This Privacy Policy explains how Arrival Project collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects personal information when you use our website and any online services that link to this Policy, including but not limited to arrivalproject.org. In straightforward terms, we describe what we collect, how and why we use it, when we share it, the choices and rights you have under California law, and how to contact us.

This Policy is intended to comply with applicable California privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and its amendments (together, CCPA/CPRA). If there is a simple takeaway, it is this: we collect only the information we need to operate, improve, and protect our services, we do not sell personal information in the traditional sense, and California residents can opt out of “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising and can request access, correction, deletion, or limitation of certain uses.

By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. You also acknowledge that this Privacy Policy is designed to be read in connection with the Site's Terms of Use, which is available at www.arrivalproject.org/terms-of-use, and that you agree to be bound by those Terms of Use. We reserve the right to update or revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. Your continued use of the Site or Services after such updates will constitute your acknowledgment of the updated Privacy Policy and your agreement to be bound by the updated Privacy Policy.

We do not intend to collect biometric data or precise geolocation through the website. If a feature later requires sensitive information, we will collect it only where permitted by law and only for the purposes disclosed when we collect it.

Automatically Collected Information

In addition to Personal Data that you provide to us, we collect or receive other information about a user's visits to the Site that does not by itself identify a specific individual. Examples of such information may include internet service provider and Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, internet browser type, pages accessed on the Site, the amount of time spent on the Site, and information about what website a user just came from and what website a user goes to after visiting the Site. Google Analytics collects aggregated information about visitors to the Site. This is not linked to any Personal Data that can identify any individual.

We collect information automatically as you navigate the site, including through server logs and cookies, which record IP address, device identifiers, browser type, pages viewed, referring and exit pages, and timestamps. We also receive information from service providers that support our operations, such as payment processors, email and analytics providers, security vendors, and certain partners that help us personalize content or measure outreach.

Cookies, Pixels, and Similar Technologies

We use “cookies” on the Site. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a Site user’s device to help us improve your access to the Site and identify repeat visitors. Cookies also can enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on the Site. “Cookie”information typically includes such data as your referring domain, internet browser type, operating system software, screen resolution, date and time of visit and other technical data related to your visit. Usage of a cookie is not linked to any Personal Data on the Site.

We use cookies, pixels, and similar tools to operate the website, understand usage, remember your preferences, improve performance, and provide or measure advertising. Some of these tools are set by our service providers.

Most internet browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser settings to prevent it from accepting cookies. By modifying your browser preferences, you have the choice to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies. However, if you choose to reject all cookies, you may be unable to use parts or certain functions of the Site. Your browser may allow you to block or delete cookies, though the website may not function properly without them.

Some browsers and extensions support the Global Privacy Control; where we detect a GPC signal, we will reasonably honor it as an opt-out of sharing and certain sales where required by law.

We and our analytics partners may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites and online services. We use this information to improve the website and, where applicable, to provide or measure advertising. You can opt out of cross-context behavioral advertising as described in Your California Privacy Rights.

Use of Collected Information

By using the Site, you give your consent that the Personal Data you provide may be used by Arrival Project in the manner and purposes described herein.

We use personal information to operate, maintain, and improve our website; process donations and transactions; communicate with you about programs, events, and updates; personalize your experience; detect, investigate, and prevent security incidents and fraud; debug and repair errors; comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms; and for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection or with your consent.

We will primarily use your Personal Data to provide our Services and communicate with you about our Services, your participation in Arrival Project events, and offers and events that may be of interest to you. We will also use Personal Data and other information about your visits to improve our internal marketing and promotional efforts, conduct analyses on the demographics of users of the Site, optimize the experience of users of the Site, and improve our Services.

We also use aggregated and deidentified information for research, reporting, and planning, and we take steps so that this information cannot reasonably be reidentified.

Sensitive Personal Information

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. Where California law applies, you may request that we limit certain uses and disclosures of sensitive personal information to those permitted by law, such as providing the services you requested, maintaining security and integrity, and complying with legal obligations.

How We Share Personal Information

We will not sell, trade, or license your Personal Data to anyone. We do not sell personal information as most people understand that term. For California law, we do not sell personal information for money.

We will not share your Personal Data with any third party outside of Arrival Project except to the extent we may need to share certain Personal Data with service providers we engage to perform business functions on our behalf (such as service providers who are necessary to complete a donation or transaction you make with us or vendors who assist us with the administration and operation of the Site) or selected third parties.

We share personal information with service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as hosting, data storage, analytics, email delivery, customer support, payment processing, security, and marketing support. We share information with our affiliates for operational purposes consistent with this Policy.

We may disclose information in connection with a corporate transaction, such as a merger, reorganization, or asset transfer, subject to appropriate protections. We may share information with third parties when you direct us to do so or consent to it, for example when we publish a testimonial. We disclose information to comply with laws and legal process, to respond to lawful requests, and to protect our rights, users, and the public. We also disclose deidentified or aggregated information that does not identify you.

We may “share” limited internet and device information with advertising and analytics partners to provide or measure cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents can opt out of this “sharing” as described below, and we will not share personal information of consumers we know are under 16 if they have not affirmatively authorized it, consistent with applicable law.

Third-Party Services and Links

Our Site may contain links to other websites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those websites or any other websites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave the Site and to read the privacy policies of those other websites. Those third parties have their own privacy practices.

Data Security

We strive to take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to your Personal Data. Whenever we collect sensitive information such as credit card data, that information is encrypted and is protected with SSL encryption software. The computers/servers in which we store Personal Data are kept in a secure environment. Cloud-based data storage is maintained on servers of reputable cloud hosting providers, such as Google Drive or GiveButter, in password-protected files.

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against accidental loss and unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. These measures include secure hosting, access controls, and encryption for sensitive transactions handled by our payment partners.

Unfortunately, no transmission of data over the internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. You acknowledge that there are security and privacy limitations inherent on the internet that are beyond our control and the security and privacy of the information exchanged between you and us through the Site cannot be guaranteed. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Email, text, and chat communications may not be encrypted, so you should consider what information you choose to send using those channels. You also play a role in protecting your information by using strong passwords, keeping them confidential, and promptly notifying us of any suspected unauthorized activity.

Data Storage and Retention

We store your Personal Data on our servers and the servers of third-party service providers, all located in the United States. We retain your Personal Data for as long as you have an account/profile with us or while you are using or receiving the Services and for a period thereafter to improve our Services and for archiving purposes.

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the website, fulfill the purposes described, meet our legal, accounting, and reporting obligations, resolve disputes, and enhance safety and security. When information is no longer needed, we delete it, deidentify it, or aggregate it consistent with applicable law. The criteria we use to determine specific retention periods include the nature of the information, the reasons it was collected, potential risks from unauthorized use or disclosure, and legal requirements.

Our operations are located in the United States. Information you provide to us, or we collect from you will be processed in the United States. The United States is not currently considered by the EU to provide an adequate level of data protection. We therefore rely on exceptions listed in the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). In particular, we collect and transfer your Personal Data to the United States only: with your consent; to perform services under the contracts we have in place with our customers; or to fulfill a compelling legitimate interest of Arrival Project that does not outweigh your rights or freedoms.

We strive to apply suitable safeguards to protect the privacy and security of your Personal Data and to use it only as described in this Privacy Policy. For more information regarding the GDPR and data transfers, please contact us at Connect@arrivalproject.org.

Your Rights with Respect to Your Personal Data

We believe you should have the ability to access and edit the Personal Data you provide to us. You may change your Personal Data in your account/profile by accessing it with the instructions on the Site. We encourage you to promptly update your Personal Data if it changes.

Depending on the location from where you access the Site, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of certain Personal Data covered by this Privacy Policy and exercise all other rights set forth in Articles 15-22 of the GDPR. You also may have the right to request that we refrain from processing your Personal Data. Please bear in mind that if you exercise such rights this may affect our ability to provide our Services to you.

While we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request, we also reserve the right to impose certain restrictions and requirements on such requests, if allowed or required by applicable laws. Please note that it may take some time to process your request.

How to Make a Privacy Request

You can submit a privacy request or ask a question about your privacy by contacting us using any of the methods in How to Contact Us below. To help protect your information, we will verify your identity before acting on a request. The verification steps may vary depending on the sensitivity of the information and the type of request.
